কোনো ঘটনার সময়ে: on the death of his father, তার বাবার মৃত্যুর সময়ে/যখন তার বাবা মারা যায়; on her arrival home, তার বাড়ি আসার সময়/যখন সে বাড়ি আসে; payable on demand, চাওয়ামাত্র (= যখন চাওয়া হবে) দেয়। (৩) কোনো বিষয়ে; কোনোকিছু সম্পর্কে: speak on the current political situation; lecture on Rabindranath; be keen/set on something, কোনো বিষয়ে অত্যন্ত আগ্রহী/দৃঢ়প্রতিজ্ঞ হওয়া। (৪) (সভ্যপদ নির্দেশ করে): He was on the committee, সে কমিটির একজন সভ্য ছিল; I was once on ‘The Daily Sangbad’, এক সময়ে দৈনিক সংবাদ- এ কাজ করতেন (এর কর্মরত সাংবাদিকদের একজন ছিলাম)। (৫) (দিক্‌নির্দেশ করে) দিকে; অভিমুখে: Protesters from all over the country marched on the capital; smile on somebody; hit somebody on the head. (৬) (কোনোকিছুর কারণ বা ভিত্তি প্রকাশ করে) : on this/that account, এই/সেই কারণে; on no account, কোনো কারণেই নয়; a film based on a famous Bengali novel, একটি বিখ্যাত বাংলা উপন্যাসের উপর ভিত্তি করে নির্মিত ছায়াছবি: act on one’s lawyer’s advice; arrested on a charge of forgery; on an average, গড়ে; গড়পড়তায়। (৭) (কোনোকিছু ধার্য করা বা চাপিয়ে দেওয়া নির্দেশ করে): put a tax on textile goods; charge interest on money; put a strain on one’s income. (৮) (নৈকট্য নির্দেশ করে) কাছাকাছি; পাশে: a small town on the frontier; a hotel on the Nababpur Road. (৯) (পরে noun, বা adjective থাকলে কাজ, ক্রিয়া, ধরন, অবস্থা নির্দেশ করবে): on business, ব্যবসায় নিরত অবস্থায়; ব্যবসা উপলক্ষে: on tour, ভ্রমণরত; on the way, পথিমধ্যে থাকা অবস্থায়; পথে; be on the look-out for somebody/something, কারো/কোনোকিছুর জন্য নজর রাখা: on fire, জ্বলন্ত অবস্থা: on sale, বিক্রির জন্য: on loan, ধারে। (১০) একের পর/একের পিঠে আর এক এই অর্থে: suffer insult on insult, অপমানের পর অপমান সহ্য করা।
