(২) (পরবর্তী একগুচ্ছ শব্দের প্রতি ইঙ্গিতদানে ব্যবহৃত হয়। এই শব্দগুচ্ছই বাক্যের ব্যাকরণিক উদ্দেশ্য। এই শব্দগুচ্ছ চার প্রকার হতে পারে): (ক) কোনো infinitive phrase: It is useful to learn a foreign language. (খ) for, কোনো বিশেষ্য/সর্বনাম বা to-infinitive: It is difficult for me to walk such a long distance. (গ) কোনো gerundial phrase: It is no use your repeating the same story again and again.(ঘ) কোনো উপবাক্য: It seems unlikely that he will come to help you. (৩) (ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে শনাক্ত করতে সামনে বা পিছনে নির্দেশদানের জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়। লক্ষণীয়; কোনো ব্যক্তির পরিচয় আগেই জানা থাকলে it ব্যবহৃত হয় না) : Who is in? It is me. (৪) (উদ্দেশ্যের অভাবপূরণের জন্য নিছক রূপগত বা অর্থহীন শব্দরূপে ব্যবহৃত হয়)। (ক) আবহাওয়া প্রসঙ্গে: It is raining; It is warm/cold. (খ) সময় প্রসঙ্গে: It is ten o’clock. (গ) দূরত্ব প্রসঙ্গে: It is five miles to Leeds. (ঘ) অস্পষ্টভাবে সাধারণ পরিস্থিতি নির্দেশে কিংবা প্রসঙ্গ থেকে অনুমান করা যায় এমন কিছু নির্দেশ করতে: So it seems; you’ve had it, তোমার যা পাওয়ার পেয়ে গেছ; keep at it, যা করছ করে যাও; It can’t be helped, উপায় নেই; You’ve got what it takes, (এই পদ, পরিস্থিতি ইত্যাদির জন্য) যা যা প্রয়োজন সবই তোমার আছে; Go it! চেষ্টা চালিয়ে যাও; That’s the best/ worst of it! এর সবচেয়ে মজার/বাজে দিক! Now you’ve done it! এই সেরেছে; Now you will catch it! এবার বুঝবে ঠেলা! (৫) বাক্যের এক অংশের উপর জোর দেওয়ার জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়। (ক) উদ্দেশ্য: It was my father’s illness that prevented me from joining you. (খ) ক্রিয়ার কর্ম: It was the younger of the two that I saw yesterday. (গ) preposition(al) –এর কর্ম: It was Jane that I sent the boy to, not Edith. (ঘ) adverbial adjunct: It was in school that I met him, not in the market. its [ইট্‌স্] (possessive) (adjective) এর, ওর; তার: Look at this canvas- its composition is masterly. itself [ইট্‌সেল্‌ফ্] (reflexive) (pronoun); নিজে; স্বয়ং: The child fell and hurt itself. □ emph (pronoun): I want to see the letter itself. by it self (ক) নিজে নিজে; নিজের থেকে; স্বয়ংক্রিয়ভাবে: An office does not run by itself. (খ) একা; নিঃসঙ্গ: The boat stood by itself on the sea.
